About

Hey there!

I’m Pete McPherson, a blogger, dad, and all-around COFFEE NERD.

I never drank coffee growing up

College was rough for me (Go Dawgs though), but I’ve always thought I would’ve done better had I been a coffee drinker!

It wasn’t until I was about 27 that I first started drinking coffee, and even then…

I was the “order the sugar-iest drink on the Starbucks menu” kinda guy.

That all changed in 2012, when I landed a part-time job at a local coffee shop in Rome, GA.

Espresso, black coffee, and roasting. Oh my!

I really just needed a part-time job as I went through grad school (where I got a Masters in Accounting)…

I didn’t plan on falling in love with coffee! (but obviously, I did).

I got to experience GREAT coffee beans, and I eventually learned to appreciate black coffee, determine whether an espresso shot was under or over extracted, and even got some experience roasting coffee (behind the expert roaster at the shop).

All-around, the experience was life-changing!

Then I moved across the country >_<

Setting up a world-class coffee bar–at home.

In late 2019, I moved across the country, to a small town with very few coffee options!

(I’ve been a full-time entrepreneur since 2016 btw).

I no longer had the amazing coffee shop to sit in, work in, and drink great coffee in.

So I made my own!

Since 2019, I’ve been investing in top-tier coffee gear for my house, including

  • roasting equipment
  • fancy grinders
  • espresso machines (lever machines!)
  • the Technivorm Moccamaster
  • LOADS of other great gear for pour overs, Aeropress, and more.

I’ve invested countless hours into discovering how to make the perfect cup at home–from the roasting process to the type of water filter I use!

This website is a resource for coffee snob DIYers

My goal is to share what I’ve learned!

I’d love it if more people could avoid the sugar-filled Starbucks drinks (although the occasional latte treat is ok of course!).

(btw, making great coffee at home also saves a great amount of money!)

So take a look around the site, and good luck!
